NEW LAND
"I moved after he did; he was there for eight years."
It was only after she had met her husband that Hanae moved to America. He was going back and forth for eight years, working and living in America while going back to Morocco to visit his family and Hanae. It was once he had gotten her a ticket and a passport that she moved along with him, towards America. After she moved, she didn't go back to see her family; she misses them, and they surely miss her too. But the opportunities in America outweighed those in her home country.
"There was so much more in america than in morocco."
Despite her expectations of American life, things were different in America. American shows were broadcasted in Morocco from time to time, as well as movies from the western country. It had boasted this image of the American dream; white picket fences, big houses, happiness, beautiful urban scenery, and most of all, lots of money.
However, once she touched down in America, Hanae realized that those portrayals were nothing more than propaganda. "It wasn't as beautiful as I imaged it to be. However, there were still opportunities here." But it didn't matter; she was here with her husband, and it was time to assimilate into the country.
